ERIE, Pa. – Monday, March 30, 2020 – Mercyhurst University and Athenium Analytics, a leader in risk analysis and business-intelligence solutions, today announced a collaboration intended to create career opportunities for Mercyhurst students and establish a new office for the company in downtown Erie.

Athenium Analytics supports insurance carriers and the U.S. Intelligence Community by providing business, geospatial and scientific intelligence through intuitive web applications. As home to the Ridge College of Intelligence Studies and Applied Sciences, Mercyhurst produces students who are well suited to contribute the necessary geospatial and open-source intelligence analysis to support Athenium Analytics clients.

“We were delighted to find both the university and Erie business community so open and welcoming to new collaboration partners and initiatives,” said Jordan Foley, chief strategy officer for Athenium Analytics. He noted that the company, which has offices in Washington, D.C., Dover, N.H., and Waltham, Mass., first became aware of Mercyhurst and opportunities to expand into the Erie community through its relationship with Erie Insurance, which is among its earliest clients.

“Collaboration between industry and academia is a critical component of enhancing innovation through knowledge exchange, and we are eager to join Athenium Analytics in this new effort,” said Provost Leanne Roberts. “That their future plans include growing their local operations in downtown Erie is certainly a plus for our city.”

Earlier this year, Athenium Analytics executives traveled to Erie to meet with Mercyhurst faculty and conduct interviews, which resulted in summer internship offers for seven Ridge College students. The company is working with the Erie Regional Chamber and Growth Partnership to find an appropriate downtown location. The long-range plan, according to company executives, is to grow the local business operation and create more career opportunities for Mercyhurst students – both in terms of internships and jobs.

“This program offers a unique and exciting opportunity for our Ridge College,” said Dean Duncan McGill. “Students can expand career experiences and options while still studying at Mercyhurst. “There is also a great corollary benefit in helping contribute to our nation’s security through the work with Athenium Analytics. The program both plays to our current strengths in curriculum offerings and points the way toward an expansion within geospatial science.”
